INTERVIEW WITH MYSTERY AUTHOR EDWIN HILL

I can’t think of a better way to spend a winter’s eve than hiding under the covers with Little Comfort and a bottle of scotch. (If you like Hitchcockian suspense, you won’t be disappointed.) Chatting with fellow Writer’s Bone podcast host Daniel Ford and suspense author Edwin Hill about his mystery novel came pretty close.

Southernmost, a novel by Silas House, explores religion, spirituality, law, morality, and where holiness can be found. The answer is often in nature, and House describes it with achingly beautiful imagery. Read my full rec for Southernmost and for Abigail DeWitt’s News of Our Loved Ones, which I simply adored, as well as all my Writer’s Bone colleagues’ recs for November!

MY INTERVIEW WITH AUTHOR ABIGAIL DEWITT

News of Our Loved Ones is a beautifully written novel that takes place mainly during World War II and is told through the voices of different members of a French family. DeWitt is interested in poetry, and this comes across in her efficient, lyrical prose. In our interview, DeWitt discusses craft as well as her family history, which inspired the book.

MY INTERVIEW WITH AUTHOR EVAN FALLENGERG

The Parting Gift is an erotic tale of lust, jealousy, and revenge set on a spice farm in Israel. Fallenberg has great control over language and over his unnamed narrator, who writes the story in letter-form. In our interview, we discuss unreliable narrators, craft, and Fallenberg’s work as a Hebrew translator.
